Making the North Downs Way National Trail a safe, inclusive and accessible destination where all are welcome.
The Putting Down Routes project seeks to encourage new audiences from under-represented communities to the North Downs Way National Trail, as well as upgrading and enhancing parts of the trail so they are more accessible to a wider range of people.
Putting Down Routes is a collaborative project between the Kent Downs National Landscape and the North Downs Way National Trail, working with partners Black Girls Hike and Wild With Wheels. Putting Downs Routes is funded through The National Lottery Heritage Fund and Defra’s Farming in Protected Landscapes.
North Downs Way National Trail Enhancements
The Putting Down Routes project wants to make the North Downs Way National Trail more welcoming and mobility accessible to more people. Physical improvements on the trail aim to improve surfacing to be navigable by most wheeled mobility aids. Whilst also removing physical barriers to access for those visiting, opening areas of the trail that have previously been unreachable for those with wheels, such as users of wheelchairs, pushchairs, mobility scooters and rollators. Follow our progress on the blog.
Accessibility in the Kent Downs National Landscape
We want the Kent Downs National Landscape to be accessible to everyone. We’re dedicated to improving physical access and equality, diversity and inclusion within the Downs and along the North Downs Way National Trail. We’re working to create an environment where anyone can experience the natural wonder of the Downs.
