Join the Kent Ornithological Society and partners for a day celebrating the wonder and science of bird migration.

Head to one of the participating sites to go birdwatching, join a guided walk, see bird ringing demonstrations and learn more about the journeys birds make to, from and through Kent.

ake part in Big Kent Bird Migration Day by recording your bird sightings across Kent, particularly migratory species, or visit one of the participating sites for a day of birdwatching and activities.

Dungeness Bird Observatory
10am – 4pm

Join a guided walk around the Point, visit the sea-watching hide, trapping area and observatory, and learn more about sea-watching and land migration. There will also be a bird ringing demonstration during the morning, weather permitting.

The guided walk is free, but places must be booked in advance by emailing admin@kentos.org.uk.

Samphire Hoe
10am – 4pm

Take part in a guided bird walk, watch licensed ringers from the East Kent Wildlife Group process birds caught on site and learn more about bird migration. There will also be a migration exhibition and a watchpoint at the Education Shelter.

Guided walk at 10.15am. Meet at the Office. Parking charges apply.

Sandwich Bay Bird Observatory
9am – 4pm

Visit the observatory, join a guided walk and see bird ringing demonstrations during the morning. Talks about bird migration will take place at 2pm and 3pm.

The observatory is within the privately owned Sandwich Bay Estate, so a small charge applies for non-members. Refreshments will be available throughout the day.

You can also take part from anywhere in Kent by sharing your bird sightings, particularly migratory species, using #kentbirdmigrationday on X/Twitter or Instagram, or through the appropriate KOS WhatsApp group.

Activities are weather dependent, so please dress appropriately and take care when taking part.
