Join us for a hands-on Nature Conservation Volunteering Weekend, hosted by Badgells Wood in celebration of National Meadows Day! This is your chance to actively contribute to protecting one of the UK’s rarest and most biodiverse habitats – chalk grassland.
The Kent Downs is home to 2.5% of the world’s remaining chalk grassland, providing a sanctuary for wildflowers, orchids, butterflies, and birds. However, these vital habitats are under constant threat. Without regular management, invasive scrub can overtake, reducing biodiversity and the beauty of the landscape. That’s where you come in.
What You’ll Be Doing
You’ll be clearing invasive scrub from the steep chalk escarpment to help keep this special habitat open and thriving. Enjoy stunning views across Kent, get a great workout, and make a real difference for nature.
This event is suitable for adults and children aged 10+ (accompanied by an adult). Due to the steep terrain, the activity may not be suitable for those with mobility concerns or very young children.
Gloves and tools will be provided, but if you have your own, please bring them along.
Ready to lend a hand? Sign up now and be part of something truly special!
