Meet our new North Downs Way Ambassadors

15th April 2026
Throughout the Putting Down Routes project we trained 27 new North Downs Way Ambassadors to join us as friendly and welcoming faces along the trail; encouraging new visitors to the landscape, to help build confidence and knowledge about walking the North Downs Way and spending time in the countryside in general.
Ambassadors were trained by Pied A Terre Adventures to lead and organise walks, joining an already active and effective team of over 40 North Downs Way Ambassadors, who are all equally passionate about sharing their knowledge and love for the landscape.
Many of our new Ambassadors are now actively running their own events and building their own communities, offering activities such as forest bathing, men’s mental health groups, equinox and solstice walks, as well as exploring local flora, fauna and farming practices.
Here are just a few of our new Ambassadors, describing their journey to becoming walk leaders:
‘Becoming a North Downs Way Ambassador through the Putting Down Routes project has increased my passion as Maroon Adventures, to reclaim, space in landscapes where our presence hasn’t always been seen, honouring the footsteps of those before us while creating a path where others can feel safe, welcome and deeply connected to the land.’ Tamara Campbell, Maroon Adventures
“I had been contemplating starting a new career as a walk leader, and the training as a North Downs Way Ambassador was the push I needed! It was a great back up to the Lowland Leader qualification and really opened my eyes to the joys of learning about the history and nature on the trail and more broadly in Kent. Most importantly, I have met some fabulous, inspiring and successful colleagues to network with and who I am learning so much from!” Lisa Spender, Are We There Yet Rambling
“When I signed up to become a North Downs Way Ambassador, I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect. Over the past year I’ve completed excellent training, been inspired to walk the full length of the trail, and led three group walks so far. It’s been a rewarding experience that’s expanded my view of walking from just a solitary activity to a shared experience where I’ve met lots of interesting new people. I’m excited to keep developing and lead more walks in the future.” Andrew Millen, Equinox Walks
