The Sustainable Viticulture Phase 1 project explores how vineyard development and management in the Kent Downs can support the environment while respecting the area’s unique landscape character.
Funded through the Farming in Protected Landscapes programme, with support from Defra, the project builds on earlier viticulture research in the Kent Downs and responds to the sector’s continued growth. Phase 1 focuses on gathering evidence, insight, and practical experience from those working directly in viticulture and environmental management.
Purpose of the project
The project aims to:

A short report will be published at the end of Phase 1, summarising key themes, learning, and opportunities identified through the project. The report will be available here once complete.
Findings from Phase 1 will help shape potential future work, including the development of practical guidance or a subsequent project phase.
