Samphire Hoe is a 30-hectare nature reserve at the foot of the famous Shakespeare Cliff, between Dover and Folkestone.
Samphire Hoe was created from 4.9 million cubic metres of chalk marl dug to create the Channel Tunnel. The site is owned by Eurotunnel and managed in partnership with the White Cliffs Countryside Partnership. The nature reserve is a haven for wildlife and the site supports a rich biodiversity all year round.
Stroll below the famous white cliffs of Dover. Look up and you might see kestrels, house martins and peregrine falcons flying along the cliffs; look down and scarce beautiful wildflowers can be seen along the paths. Rock samphire and rock sea lavender grow in profusion along the sea wall and lizards and adders bask in the sun. Look out across the sea to distant views of France; all from the tranquillity of this unique coastal country park setting.
See the latest poster exhibition, new education shelter warmed by wood burning stove, and stop for refreshments at the kiosk.
The North Downs Way National Trail runs along the top of the cliffs between Folkestone and Dover.
