In a collaboration between the Putting Down Routes team and Every Body Outdoors, we are delighted to announce a gentle, circular walk around Otford in the Kent Downs National Landscape.
This event is for plus size people of all genders to create a safe and inclusive space. We do not set a size restriction on this, but if you are smaller than a size 18/2XL we would ask you to consider if there might be other groups that you could attend.
This walk takes us from Otford Station into the village of Otford along a paved footpath. Otford lies on the River Darent in the Darent Valley. We will walk through the village taking in sights like the duck pond, and independent shops, cafe’s and historic buildings.
We will leave the High Street to walk Park Lane which runs between the village sports field, and horse stables. The path continues past Park Lane taking in views of the Darent Valley on either side of us along with fields of horses. Past the horse fields we will walk up an incline of roughly 150 meters, this can be a great opportunity to take breaks to admire the view and take photos.
As we continue we do pass through the Darent Valley Golf Course so will need to be mindful of any golfers teeing off. We then turn to head down a tree lined paved lane. The section of path we head down to start walking back to the village does cross through a field with cows in it, so we will stop to locate where the cows are in the field and walk along the edge. Should the cows be too close for comfort we can slightly amend out route.
The last stretch of the walk feels more rural walking through fields, finishing along the Darent River until we get back to the High Street.
Anyone who is interested is welcome to stop for coffee or lunch in the village before heading off.
This event is part of the North Downs Way National Trail and Kent Downs National Landscape’s Putting Down Routes Project. Working with partners Wild With Wheels and Black Girls Hike. This is funded through The National Lottery Heritage Fund and Defra’s Farming in Protected Landscapes.
