Join this guided walking tour to explore Shakespeare Cliff and a hidden fortress along Dover's Heritage Coast.

Join the White Cliffs Community Rail Partnership in National Storytelling Week, on a spectacular circular walk from Dover Priory Station up to the Western Heights fortress on the hill. Skirt around the northern perimeter of the historic dry ditches, descend the hill to cross the A20 (footbridge) an onto famous Shakespeare Cliff.

Hear about the history, wildlife, plants and geology as we go and hear some ‘stories’ read from Shakespeare. Learn about the aspiration to become a UNESCO Geopark, as well as hear about formation of the Dover Strait by the mega floods. You’ll see the White Cliffs, beautiful sea views, maybe the French coast (weather permitting), plants, animals and weather!

The walk will, include some steep slopes, muddy paths, steps and high places (not suitable for those who don’t like heights).

Please bring suitable outdoor footwear (good grip) and wet weather clothing, hats, gloves.

Bring a packed lunch, snacks and plenty of drink.

Distance: about 4.0 miles (6.44 km) total

Duration: about 4 hours (walk up to the Western Heights fortress around the northern perimeter; down to Shakespeare Cliff and back partly via the North Downs Way, then back to the railway station.
