Join artist Alison Neighbour for a guided version of The Chalk Path, inviting you to walk down through deep time, to reflect on the past and reimagine the future, considering the enormity of time and it's relationship to our own human existence and impact.

On Saturday 16th August join artist Alison Neighbour for a guided ceremonial version of The Chalk Patha geolocated audio walk through the Deep Time of the chalk cliffs in Folkestone Warren.

The Sea is both beginning and ending of everything on earth – where do we fit into this cycle and what layer do we want our story to leave?

Starting at Folkestone’s East Cliff at 8am, we will greet the day together before descending through the chalk cliffs to meet the sea.

The walk is approximately 2.5km and will take around an hour at a leisurely pace. There are some steep slopes and uneven/slippery ground so please wear appropriate shoes and clothes for the weather.

We will finish with a light breakfast picnic on the beach in Folkestone Warren, with an opportunity to discuss the work and find out more about the process.

This event will be introduced in English, with the audio walk itself available in both English and French.

You’ll need to bring your own headphones and smartphone with the audio walk already downloaded – see the links below for the downloadable audio.

If you do not have headphones or a smartphone, please let us know via ali.neighbour@gmail.com so we can offer you an analogue version of the experience.

If you find you cannot attend please offer your place to a friend. We’re afraid we cannot offer refunds or manage exchanges due to the administrative workload but we’d love to see all the places filled.

The Chalk Path was originally developed through funding from Arts Council England, Parc naturel régional des caps et marais d’Opale, The Geologists Association Curry Fund, Folkestone Fringe, Eurotunnel Le Shuttle, The Green Fund, and Kent Downs National Landscape, in connection with the Cross-Channel Geopark’s bid to become a UNESCO Global Geopark.

A companion version of the walk is available at Cap Blanc Nez in France – why not try this one too and get the perspective on the land and sea from the other side?

Booking required, Please book here.
