As part of Dover Arts Development collaboration with the Geopark Festival, you will have the chance to hear ‘A Hole Story: Moore and Dover’ written and narrated by artist Nicolas Deshayes.
In this audio recording, artist Nicolas Deshayes explores the influence of place on Henry Moore’s work, drawing on his own move to the Dover coastline at the same age that Moore also lived there. Made while walking along Shakespeare’s Cliff, Deshayes considers how geological forms, the evolution of the chalk landscape and the casting process intersect within Moore’s sculptural language.
This piece was originally commissioned by Henry Moore Studios & Gardens as part of ‘Artist Stories’ where contemporary artists share their own experience of a Henry Moore encounter.
Nicolas Deshayes is a sculptor living in Dover. His sculptures draw on the anatomy of bodies and their environments – moving between soft and fluid, hard and mechanical. Working predominantly with casting techniques in metal, ceramic or glass, he explores forms that resonate with both biological systems and the industrial structures and objects that shape everyday life.
