Artist Sara Trillo explores lost landscape features and vanished settlements, researching them extensively, and undertakes walking expeditions searching for remaining traces of them. Her recent work has evolved from research into dene holes, ancient chalk mines of uncertain age and purpose. She is making sculptural work from clay, textiles, and rope inspired by her, and other peoples, experiences of descending into dene holes.
On Saturday 9 September, as part of the festival programme, Sara will also be talking about her encounters with dene holes in the Kent Downs AONB landscape, and the experiences of others who have entered dene hole shafts, either deliberately or accidentally.
