Overview:
Step into the stillness of late autumn with a 5-mile night hike through Kings Wood, Challock. As the last of the leaves fall and the forest quietens for winter, we’ll explore this ancient woodland under the cover of darkness. With the chance to hear owls calling, encounter nocturnal wildlife, and gaze up at the stars from a low light-pollution area, this is a special opportunity to slow down and see woodlands like you haven’t before.
Route Details:
After a safety briefing we’ll walk the woodland trails through Kings Wood, giving our eyes time to adjust to the dark. The trees, now bare and sculptural, create striking silhouettes against the evening sky.
Kings Wood comes alive at night. Home to tawny and barn owls, we may hear their calls echoing through the trees. Bats, foxes, and even badgers make appearances after sunset—if we tread quietly, we may catch a glimpse.
With little light pollution in this part of Kent, we’ll pause to look skyward. On a clear evening, the stars shine bright, and the moon casts a beautiful glow through the trees, making the forest feel otherworldly.
This gentle-paced walk is perfect for nature lovers, those seeking peace, or anyone curious about hiking after dark.
