North Downs Way 10 : Wye to Chilham
This walk begins at Wye train station moments from the Great River Stour. Your route will soon deliver you to the charming local gem that is Perry Court Farm where you can sample some of their delicious apple juice, rest for a while in the tearooms or buy picnic items for a lunch stop in Kings Wood.
As you venture closer to the immense Kings Wood looming on the hill you will first reach All Saints Church in Boughton Aluph where Pilgrims walking to Canterbury would have stopped to seek shelter. The oversized porch here was perfect for pilgrims to gather and then move through the woods together which would have protected them from robbers.
Continue uphill to the Kings Wood which is 1500 acres in size and used to be a royal hunting forest. Your route passes by stunning bluebell beech woodland which are best seen in April.
Your walk finishes in the picturesque medieval Chilham Square which is hemmed by Chilham Castle, a tearoom, a pub, a church and half timbered buildings.
