Bumblebee Walk and Talk at Farthing Common

Join us for an informative and engaging morning dedicated to bees.
10.30am – Introduction to bees
We begin with a talk covering the basics of bees, including the three types of bees, their ecological differences, their importance to our environment, and conservation efforts. We will also discuss how gardening can support bee populations.
11am – Bumblebee identification
Learn to identify the major bumblebee species with a focus on the Big 7. This session will provide practical tips and insights to help you recognize these key species in the wild.
11.30am – Guided walk and bee observation
We will take a walk around the common to observe bees in their natural habitat. Participants will be provided with nets and pots to catch and examine bumblebees. Alex Hodges, Project Officer for the Bee Connected project, will be available to answer questions about bumblebees and the project’s efforts.
12.30pm – Conclusion
Our event will wrap up between 12.30pm and 1pm.
