The Ashford to Tenterden cycle route is the perfect way to take in Kent’s quintessential scenery running on small country lanes through the High Weald, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).

This section forms part of the National Cycle Route 18 – a designated cycling route that runs from Canterbury to Royal Tunbridge Wells and connects Ashford and Tenterden as part of the route. This route is a shorter ride that allows you to explore the Weald, in slightly more manageable chunks.

You can begin your journey at any point in Ashford, but it’s recommended to start near Ashford International Station for easy access. From there, follow the signs for National Cycle Route 18. Head south and leave Ashford and follow the signs for Route 18, which will guide you through the town and onto the designated cycle path.

As you continue south, you will pass through the village of Great Chart. After Great Chart, the route will lead you through Smarden and Pluckley, both picturesque villages with beautiful countryside surroundings.

Follow the signs to stay on Route 18. From Pluckley, you will cycle through more rural landscapes until you reach the village of Biddenden where you can sample some delicious fine English wines at Biddenden Vineyard. The route continues to be well-marked, helping you navigate without any confusion.

Finally, the route will take you from Biddenden to Tenterden, where you can explore the town’s charming streets and attractions.

For experienced cyclists keen to tackle a more challenging ride we have an Ashford to Tunbridge Wells Wealden Cycle Trail.
