Holborough Woodlands is a 500-hectare area of semi-natural woodland and chalk grassland nestled within the Kent Downs National Landscape. A significant portion of the site is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and is accessible via a network of footpaths offering stunning views over the Medway Valley.

Key Features

  • The area boasts mature beech and yew trees, alongside extensive sweet chestnut coppice.

  • Grazed by Hebridean sheep, this habitat supports rare plants such as ground pine, clustered bellflower, and various orchids.

  • Home to 101 ancient or veteran trees, adding to its ecological significance.

  • The woodlands support a wide range of butterflies, moths, bees, and other insects. Notably, six species of bats reside here, and bird enthusiasts may spot cuckoos, nightjars, and hawfinches.
