Tickling your Tastebuds

As part of the EXPERIENCE project we've teamed up with Visit Kent and local businesses to develop brand new food and drink experiences across the Garden of England. Here's a sneak peak of some of the wonderful things to come...

Lullingstone Country Park

Lullingstone Country Park already offers a lovely location for walks, runs and family fun (plus a pretty great cafe). They hope to launch 'Celebrate Autumn harvest’ activities - a chance to taste local cheese and complimentary ciders produced by local artisans, discover how cheeses are made and the different apple varieties that are used to make cider. Learn about the heritage of Kentish orchards, the culture surrounding the celebration of harvest festival and purchase gorgeous products direct from sellers.

Rebel Farmer

Rebel Farmer are passionate about education and the need for local, seasonal, ethically grown food. They currently produce soil-grown micro greens, salads and flowers that are ethically grown and chemical free using No-Dig/Permaculture methods. They want to build on their sustainable farming, education and Tipi business and offer guests the chance to learn about seed sowing or veg harvest, plant and wildlife identification so they leave inspired to grow better.

Natural Pathways

Natural Pathways offers a wide variety of courses to engage young and old with the natural world and already welcome families, adults and corporate groups to learn about and explore the nature around them. They are looking to create new 'Tale of the Great Oak' experiences so visitors can immerse themselves in the culture, myth and folk lore around the Great Oak trees of our land and enjoy a wild foraged meal cooked on the camp-fire.

Out to the Woods

Out to the Woods is a community forest school promoting wellbeing, resilience and a love of our beautiful ancient woodlands, Admiral woods based in Bicknor, Kent. They're developing a range of experiences including the ancient culinary art of making delicious chapati's and a lentil or vegetable curry on an open fire in their beautiful woodland, yummy!

Foodie Walks: Taking our first foodie steps

With lockdown easing now in place we're delighted to see that some of our favourite places to eat are re-opening and we're so excited to share them with you. Here are a few routes that will wet your appetite and lead you to fabulous pubs, farm shops and local producers in the Kent Downs AONB and North Downs Way.

The Way of St Augustine

This 19 mile route is full of tasty treats and runs from Ramsgate to Canterbury although you might want to stay overnight halfway through. If you're planning a trip of self-discovery then don't forget to pick up your pilgrim passport at the Welcome Centre in Canterbury Cathedral or the Shrine of St Augustine in Ramsgate, get it stamped along the way and some nearby pubs, restaurants and accommodation providers will even give you a discount.

Wye Downs Walk

If you're looking for something a bit shorter then try this 4.3 mile walk that takes you through the historic village of Wye. You'll travel past the Wye Crown, cut into the white chalk of the North Downs, and through Wye Nature Reserve where many species of wild orchids grow. Luckily there are plenty of places for a well deserved rest and bite to eat in Wye too, try the New Flying Horse for brasserie-style dining and locally caught fish specials or The Wife of Bath restaurant for something more upmarket.
