The Kent Downs has a great deal to offer whether you are visiting for a day or staying longer. An extensive rights of way network enables you to explore the countryside on foot, cycle and horseback.

Discover the landscape and enjoy the wildlife by visiting the many countryside sites, woodlands and nature reserves. Look for areas managed by the Kent Wildlife Trust, Countryside Projects, Woodland Trust, Natural England and Forestry Commission.

The Kent Downs has a wealth of historic sites and properties such as Chartwell House, Ightham Mote and the Western Heights at Dover. There are many fascinating and beautiful villages with an enormous variety of places to eat and drink. Go to Parish Sites to discover more about our downland villages.

Map Reading!
Did you know it is said that just 10% of people are able to read maps? If you think you fall within the remaining 90%, then perhaps the Ordnance Survey’s free leaflets on “map reading made easy” may be of use! Go to their website and download their leaflets, available in pdf format.

When visiting the Kent Downs, remember the Countryside Code:

Be safe – plan ahead and follow any signs.
Leave gates and property as you find them.
Protect plants and animals, and take your litter home.
Keep dogs under close control.
Consider other people.
Respect, protect and enjoy
